About Us

Eiderdown Books is an independent publisher dedicated to telling the stories of women artists. We create beautifully designed, collectible mini-monographs that bring overlooked and underrepresented artists into focus.

Founded on the belief that art history is still incomplete and women artists have been overlooked or written out of the narratives, Eiderdown Books exists to redress the balance — publishing concise, elegant books that introduce readers to artists whose work deserves wider recognition.

WHAT WE DO

We're best known for our growing series of mini-monographs on women artists.

Each book is:

  • Carefully researched and thoughtfully written by a leading scholar or researcher
  • Designed as a collectable, well-illustrated introduction to the artist
  • Compact, accessible, and giftable - they're easy to read and good looking

Our aim is to create books that sit comfortably in a museum shop, on a bedside table, slip into your bag to read on a journey, or build up over the years into a personal collection — small in format, but rich in content and presence and to pass on to the next generation.

OUR APPROACH

Our books are:

  • Visually distinctive - we love it when customers tell us they remind them of the Ladybird books!
  • Considered in every detail - from editing to design, these books are made by a team of creative women
  • Rooted in the materiality of print

From typography to paper choice, each element is part of how the work is experienced.

WHY WOMEN ARTISTS

Many women artists remain underrepresented in publishing, exhibitions and public awareness.

Eiderdown Books focuses exclusively on:

  • Overlooked figures
  • Under-recognised contributions
  • Artists whose work expands the narrative of art history

By dedicating each title in the Modern Women Artists series to a single artist, we create space for deeper engagement and discovery.

WHERE YOU’LL FIND US

Eiderdown Books titles are stocked by:

  • Museum shops
  • Independent bookshops
  • Cultural institutions

Our books are designed to sit within these spaces — alongside exhibitions, collections, and conversations about art. You can find a list of some of our stockists here.

OUR AMBITION

We are building a carefully curated list of books that, over time, forms a broader picture:

A library of books about women artists.
A rebalancing of the canon.
A series that invites collecting, returning, and re-reading.
